CoRRupted
Wednesday, January 25th, 2006Before Chinese New Year, the policemen were seen everywhere, along the road, streets, in the shade of darkness spying for imprudent drivers. Unfortunately, my friend was one among them, she got caught twice by those mercenary officials and paid RM20 for each in order to avoid from getting saman.
Guess what, the officer was the one who actually asked her for the extra money. As my friend was scared of being sued for corrupting policeman, initially, she remained silent and apologized. And there is when the police started to ask : Mau Tolong tak? Kalau tidak perlu bayar RM300..Kalau boleh, kamu boleh bagi saya RM100. As a student, RM100 is a big sum for us, she end up paying RM20 to him.
Last year 2st sem, during my tutorial, my lecturer was discussing with us about police image among citizens in M’’sia. It was ruined as nobody respect police, trust and like them. We were asked to collect news of police, and we read the articles where our minister criticized the bad ethos in the police department, promised us that it will be renovated into a better one.
However, 1 year past, everything seems to be the same or even worse! What we read from the newspaper daily report regarding police are mostly negative. I have this experience where I lodged a report in the police station and once i step in, it was actually a dull, cabined and smoky room that makes people feel really uncomfortable. Without any expectation of good service and manners from the officials, I was transfered to another department due to a small matter and it is time consuming to run both places for a report.
Did you ever get corrupted by the police? Most of us do, but we only tell about it to people we knew, some of us do stand and voice out, however, they end up being sued by the police for defamation. Maybe we should follow the rules and regulations, stay away from sensitive issues, act as a good citizens, believe what the government tell us bla bla black sheep**** because we are powerless though actually we aren’t.
