Dia del amor y la amistad
Wednesday, February 14th, 2007Saint Valentine’s Day is a special day where lovers get to express their gratitude and loves to each other. Thanks to the concentrated marketing effort, Valentine’s Day has emerged as a Highly Consumptive Day whereby men have to cudgel their brains for an unique and unforgettable Valentine for their loves one or POTENTIAL gf. As for the ladies, its a day where they dress up nicely and impose their beauty upon noble gifts or meal.
A friend of mine thinks that Valentine’s Day is a day where "communism is fuelled by consumerism" as goods and foods are overtly costly. Most people are blinded by the luxuriant and nobby advertisements that their rationality have been cloaked by their sensibility.
In Japan and Korea, girls are obligated to give chocolates and candy to the people they like. By further marketing effort, a reciprocal day called White Day on March 14, where men are expected to return the favor to those who gives them chocolates. Thanks God Malaysian weren’t affected by this culture. As for Chinese, a similar counterpart of the Valentine’s Day is called as The Night of Sevens where ladies pop mandarin orange or citrus into the river and the men fish for with a scoop net.
In contemporary days, Valentine’s Day was referred as "Single Awareness Day" - to remind one who has been single for years that its time to end the bachelor life. Also, it reminds the couple who encountered mild relationship to revive and sparkle their love story.
